3 main reasons - How important is “Data-area copy”
- Have you ever spent whole day for copying data of a hard disk?
- Have you ever tried to use an HDD/SSD hard disk cloner to back up hard disk, but failed to copy for unknown reasons?
- There are so many copy machines of hard disk on the market. How to choose an efficient backup method is a very important.
↑UReach Duplicator support different copy modes.
Common copy modes are divided into "Whole HDD copy" and "Data Area Copy"(System and All File). Whole HDD copy means that the area of entire hard disk will be completely copied to another hard disk regardless of the data area or blank area. Data area copy only copy the area of system and all files.
The biggest difference between the two modes is the amount of data backed up and the copying time required.
*The following lists a few points about the "data area copy", which is a better way of backup data.
1.The cost of copying time is too much
Most of the hard drives on the market have 1TB capacity at least, which copying data is very time-consuming. However, the general hard drive cloner only support “whole HDD copy”, it takes about 5 hours to copy 1TB of data of HDD. If larger capacity of HDD will take much more time.
Before backing up by “whole HDD copy”, which need to confirm first that total capacity of source is less than or equal to total capacity of target. Otherwise, the backup will not succeed.
Because the time cost of copying of “whole HDD copy” is not efficient, UReach duplicator adopt "data area copy (fast copy)" to backup data, which increase efficiency of copying data.
"Data area copy" will analyze format of hard disk and data distribution on hard disk before copying, which will not spend time for backing up on unused blank blocks. Copying system, data, and even the data in the hidden area (HPA), UReach duplicator supports the fastest copy speed of 30GB/m (SATA Duplicator), which greatly saving your precious time.
2.The reasons why the copy fails by duplicator
Although hard disk duplicator can clone entire hard disk, there are some unavoidable situations. When cloning a hard drive, the capacity of source needs to be smaller or equal to the capacity of target, but why sometimes the hard drive with the same specifications also fail to copy?
In a case of practical applications, it often happens that two hard disks with the same specifications are used as the source and the target, but the copy fails after more than a few hours. After checking on the computer, even though the hard disk with same specifications, there may be a slight difference in the number of bytes of hard disk.
This factor leads to the problem of larger capacity of source copy to small capacity of target. HDD cloner is unable to recognize the difference of capacity of the hard disk before copying data. The warning indicator of failure appears at the end of the copy, which is wasted time for waiting.
In addition, when the process of copying encounters bad blocks (Bad sectors), HDD cloner cannot skip the bad sectors, and it will directly fail to back up data. In contrast, the UReach duplicator can set the number of bad blocks allowed, and skip the bad blocks automatically.
3.The capacity of the source is larger than that of the target. Can it be worked?
UReach duplicator can analyze the data distribution before copying the hard disk, even if there is that capacity of the source is larger than that of the target, duplicator can give a reminder before copying (Target Too Small).
By analyzing data distribution first, duplicator recognize the location of data of the source. When capacity of source is larger than target, if location of data is within the area smaller than the capacity of the target, which data can be copied directly.
However, if the analysis finds that the distribution of hard disk data exceeds the capacity of the target, the duplicator will immediately notify that the copy cannot be made, which won’t spend unnecessary time for waiting.
